Many people have difficulty in understanding specific financial terms, even those which are bandied around all the time and which people just assume they understand, such as endowment mortgages and bonds.
The problem is that most people find finance a real mystery, but do not want to admit that they do not have a clue what is being talked about. You know the scene that is familiar to so many people – you go to visit your pensions advisor who talks about this and that and you come out of it none the wiser than when you went in, as you do not understand the jargon.
All this can have a huge impact on our own financial planning as we cannot plan for our retirement when we do not know all the options available to us.
That is why you have to take the bull by the horns and ask questions of people in the know. Do not be afraid of looking stupid as this is preferable to making the wrong decisions now and not having adequate funding when you retire.
Ask questions until you fully understand the different scenarios and if you still have any problems with understanding then research specific terms on the internet until you have a good handle on what is going on – take charge of your own life.
